4 Most Beautiful Lyrics

9 Crimes by Damien Rice

It's such a beautiful song about the not-so-beautiful side of life. From my understanding of the song, the persona is caught up between the guilt of having an affair with another woman and the idiosyncrasy fondness which he felt for her, that led him committed such act. He somehow knew that what he was doing was wrong but it was just something that he had to do. Sounds familiar?
However, in the end, after he fought against the ironies (in the chorus), he admitted that everything was not supposed to be as what it turned out.
Leave me out with the waste
This is not what I do
It's the wrong kind of place
To be thinking of you

It's the wrong time
For somebody new
It's a small crime
And I got no excuse

And is that alright? Yeah
Give my gun away when it's loaded
That alright? Yeah
If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?

That alright? Yeah
Give my gun away when it's loaded
That alright? Yeah, with you?

Leave me out with the waste
This is not what I do
It's the wrong kind of place
To be cheating on you

It's the wrong time
She's pulling me through
It's a small crime
And I got no excuse

And is that alright? Yeah
To give my gun away when it's loaded
(Is that alright with you?)
Is that alright? Yeah
If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?
(Is that alright with you?)

Is that alright? Yeah
If I give my gun away when it's loaded
(Is that alright with you?)
Is that alright
Is that alright with you?

That alright? Yeah
If I give my gun away when it's loaded
(Is that alright with you?)
Is that alright? Yeah
You don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?
(Is that alright with you?)

Is that alright? Yeah
If I give my gun away when it's loaded
(Is that alright with you?)
Is that alright
Is that alright with you?

And is that alright? Yeah
(To give my gun away when it's loaded)
Is that alright? Yeah
(You don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?)

Is that alright? Yeah
(To give my gun away when it's loaded)
Is that alright? Is that alright?
Is that alright with you? No

He knew he was on the wrong side, he tried to make amend of it by realizing the mistakes and admitting it but it was too late to do so. Been there before.

Love is a Losing Game by Amy Winehouse

I immediately fell in love with this song after the first play ever. Not only because I adore this woman, this song is full of 'life' and the story-telling goes very well with the easy-listening, not soppy, melody. Listening to this song is like hearing to a very thoughtful advice given by a best friend about how love is a powerful thing and seemed so attractive as it comes along but in the end, you'll still end up getting hurt again and again.

For you I was a flame
Love is a losing game
Five story fire as you came
Love is a losing game

One I wished I never played
Oh what a mess we made
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Played out by the band
Love is a losing hand
More than I could stand
Love is a losing hand

Self professed... profound
Till the chips were down
Though you're a gambling man
Love is a losing hand

Though I battle blind
Love is a fate resigned
Memories mar my mind
Love is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Love, according to this piece, is nothing short of a useless game aside from how attractive it might look and all of its grandeur.

Uninvited by Alanis Morissette

You dream big. You hope for the best person in life to pop into your life and everything will be perfect. But somehow, when he/she arrives, you hold back thinking, "Am I ready for this?"

Like anyone would be
I am flattered by your fascination with me
Like any hot blooded woman
I have simply wanted an object to crave

But you, you're not allowed, you're uninvited
An unfortunate slight

Must be strangely exciting
To watch the stoic squirm
Must be somewhat heartening
To watch shepard meet shepard

But you, you're not allowed, you're uninvited
An unfortunate slight

Like any uncharted territory
I must seem greatly intriguing
You speak of my love like
You have experienced love like mine before

But this is not allowed, you're uninvited
An unfortunate slight

I don't think you unworthy
But I need a moment to liberate

This is the central idea of Miss Morissette's Uninvited where you are afraid to hand over your whole life to a person whom, ironically, you have been waiting for all these times. It just shows that sometimes the things that we desired in life are not always the ones best for us. The moment it arrives, your heart will go something like "Whoa, hold on" and then you realized, you don't really want the things you are longing for and you are better off without them.

Three Wishes by The Pierces

I really love this song! I absolutely think that this song is so brilliant because it was written by some small-time, true singer/songwriter. And the best thing about songs which were written by those people (including Amy Winehouse) is that, the song really comes from the heart and of what they believe.
Basically there's nothing in depth about this song. It discussed about the insecurities us humans have; how we wanted everything around us to be perfect and goes according to our plans - which didn't always quite turn out to be so. We believe that we are weak, fragile because of so, so and we somewhat have excuses to all the things that we do and didn't.

We'd be so less fragile
If we're made from metal
And our hearts from iron
And our minds from steel
And if we built an armor
For our tender bodies
Could we love each other
Would we stop to feel

And you want three wishes:
One to fly the heavens
One to swim like fishes
And then one you're saving for a rainy day
If your lover ever takes her love away

You say you want to know her like a lover
And undo her damage, she'll be new again
Soon you'll find that if you try to save her
It renews her anger
You will never win

And you want three wishes:
You want never bitter
And all delicious
And then one you're saving for a rainy day
If your lover ever takes her love away

You want three wishes:
One to fly the heavens
One to swim like fishes
You want never bitter
And all delicious
And a clean conscience
And all it's blisses
You want one true lover with a thousand kisses
You want soft and gentle and never vicious
And then one you're saving for a rainy day
If your lover ever takes her love away

The strength of this song relies on its melancholic yet sharp lyrics that stings those who understand this piece.
