Oh Man...

Sin on a platter a.k.a the Sushi Platter ...this is so de- waitforit -licious! Thanks to Firah and Imran for introducing me to this sushi platter from Haagen Dazs. I never knew ice-cream could be so sexy and yummy at the same time. Everything on this platter is either ice-cream, cut fruits, whip cream or chocolate. All meticulously made to resemble a sushi dish but, yes, it's ice cream. This one is about 35 bucks. Highly recommended if you fancy ice-creams.

Blondie's 24th Birthday

I would be lying if I say I didn't take some pride in organizing this small celebration secretly from the birthday girl's knowing. Just a way to return the favor she did for my birthday earlier this year. Blondie and DD Ayi & Ben Ayi 2.0 & Fifi So all six of us - including birthday girl's new fierce hairdo - gathered in Decanter, PJ on one Saturday evening. Boy, how 1Malaysia we were yet had so much fun catching up with each other after not meeting for SO long. It was our first time there, except for Ann Jie, and surprisingly the food was really good with affordable price. Ayie had this thing (I completely forgot the name) which all of us agreed unanimously, it was really tasty. Then we headed to Jaya One and had drinks in Starbucks where Miss McChicken (her new nickname) Ami finally took time off her busy schedule to join us. To my bestie Ann Jie, happy 24th birthday to you and I certainly look forward for more awesome schmosome years ahead with you. Hope she likes...

Congratulations, Bontots

There comes a time in your life when you really paused, realized everything has changed and how grown up you have become. Three years passed by so swiftly and my friends have graduated successfully (and stylishly) last August 4 in Dewan Tunku Canselor, Universiti Malaya. As what I've learned last year during my bestie, Ann Jie's graduation, convocation only means one word: HOT. Not hot as in fabulous. I really mean 'hot'! Lots of walking, phone-calls under the scorching sun and wandering around looking for your friends amongst thousands of people and crawling traffic. I didn't feel fun at all especially with sweat running down my 500 bucks Fred Perry Laurel. But all the un-fun parts was squashed away the moment I saw my friends. Oh, how it was so 2007 all the sudden again. Frankly, there's something about convocation that makes me emotional. Seeing my friends all with their robes, beret (is it called beret?), six-inch heels (Sakina) and bouquets made me so proud...

I Popped My Satay Cherry

I don't really like satay. Never. I dislike them, actually. I never understood the joy of eating carcinogenic, roasted (was it roasted?) animal flesh with some sweet gravy. My mom and my sister in law know this about me very well. Somehow, I was attracted to this one place called Serai Satay Bar in Pavilion, KL. Blame it on a slow weekend at home watching Jalan - Jalan Cari Makan on TV3. This place is supposedly a breath of fresh air for Malaysian delicacies like satay and, err , satay as they serve it in a giant cup-like container with the size of Big Gulp cups in 7 Eleven. Yes, they actually put the satay sticks with additional sticks of nasi himpit, cucumber and onion slices in those giant cups with its gravy so you can enjoy it like regular snacks while strolling around. Well, supposedly . Try doing that in a crowded shopping mall without smacking people's faces as you struggle to detach those pesky satay from their sticks. Anyway, it's a good idea to put it into such c...

The Best Buffet Ever

JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur, located adjacent to the Starhill Gallery has probably one of the best Ramadan buffet around with affordable price. Quite affordable, if you may. With many other five-star hotels vying for buka puasa buffet but at insane prices (Hilton KL doing it at RM109++ per person, Le Meridien at RM89++, Hotel Istana at RM99++), JW Marriott took a wiser road by doing it at much lower price, which is RM54++. Not bad for an international five-star hotel with a long-standing good reputation over the years. Aside from the numerous bombings in Jakarta though. Indonesians seemed to have a unquenchable thirst for actions, I assumed. Waiting for breaking fast time Anyway, here in JW Marriott Ramadan buffet, you won't find any Western or any other types of main dishes other than Malay's. For real kampung-style food lover like me, this is a buffet worth attending. You have over 100 dishes to choose from - from chicken rice, mees, laksa, briyani, rojak, fruits, cakes, bubur, ...

Third Week of Fasting

Everyone who's close to me knows how risk-averse I am. I'm a perfectionist and I hate being unorganized (though it always happens). Thus, when Ayi suddenly suggested dining out for breaking fast hours before the due time, I was uneasy. Since we were heading to KLCC. We checked on Madam Kwan, which was fully booked as expected. Little Penang Cafe was equally packed as well. Even the food court was fully occupied an hour before breaking fast time. Oh, I smelled disaster. I hate myself for not making any reservation prior. Dang. Since every eatery you could ever think of in Suria KLCC was full that day,we headed to the adjacent Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. Thankfully, Kenny Rogers there still has seats available BUT no more roasted chicken for us. Double dang. Like it or not, we had its beef spaghetti bolognaise which comes with a muffin, and I have to say, it was pretty good. I can assure you that this doesn't come out from our empty stomach but indeed, it was tasty. How e...

The Best Thai Food in KL

When someone asks me of my favorite eatery in Kuala Lumpur, the answer to this question will never change. In fact, it has remained consistent for the past 3, 4 years. I love Imperial Chakri Palace restaurant. There, I've said it again for the umpteenth time. I really, really love this place. Not just because I have a penchant for Thai food, but the ambiance and the whole layout of the restaurant itself are captivating. Not to mention, the delish, delish Thai food over there - especially the exquisite pandan leaf chicken which is one of the many reasons I fell in love with this place. During the second week of fasting, Ayi and I chose this place to break the fast. We did not make any reservation prior and just dropped by hours before the breaking fast time. Thankfully, there were still vacancy unlike last year, where we did not have any chance to break the fast there - everyday the place was fully book right until the end of Ramadan. Crazy. The Ramadan buffet is RM69++ per person a...

Of Bananas and Fasting Month

Dessert. Nyum nyum It's that time of the year again. Assignments thrown in your face without mercy, presentations and numerous of tests coming your way even before you have time to say 'Test, what?'. Totally, bananas. But, one good thing is that the fasting month is here again. This means less time for me to think about food and more time to spend on work. Or so, it seems. The first couple of days fasting left me totally immobile - stranded on bed, unable to do a thing. But now I've got better! And already, people all around me noticed I've lost some weight. During last year's Ramadan, I lost 8kg. Let's hope I still have some flesh intact when Raya comes this year. One of the best things of Ramadan has got to be the food. The buffet, the bazaar and all the sudden, invitations to break the fast together flooded in. How nice. During the first week of fasting, Secret Recipe was my choice du jour to break the fast. Twice. Not that there's any good reason bes...

Back to the Center of the Universe

...also known as Taiping. Last weekend, I had to head up north to attend a wedding reception on my parents' behalf while they are still in Mecca performing umrah. Then I thought, why not I drag my hommie along so he could see (and taste) the marvelous-ness of a small town called Taiping. Armed with bag-load of tid bits and my serviced Kiki the Kancil (thanks, sis!) off we went back to my dearly beloved town. Boy, I have things all planned out for both of us - mainly has got to do with various eating places and delish food. Day 1 - Friday The journey back to Taiping is approximately 250km, so I better have some good company and amusing activities while driving back. Glad to say with Ayi around, I got both. We stopped for lunch in KFC Sungai Buloh R&R, fuel in Rawang, fruits in Tapah and finally in m brother's place in Ipoh before heading directly to Taiping. Somewhere along the highway That night, my mission of introducing him to the vast variety of delish food in Taiping ki...
