Le Conseil de Mortier

After what seemed like 20,000 light years, I finally graduated, officially.  Frankly speaking, it felt mighty good to wear that indigo robe with silver lapel and being surrounded by my loved ones. It would be even better had my 'bontots' joined me in Dewan Tunku Canselor, UM that day (good God, I miss you guys).  I even received a huge casablanca bouquet from Ayi and Mie. They certainly knew my favorite flower (thanks guys). I won't detail on what went down that day - it was the same old routine every graduates had to undergo for convocation. But I would tell how important that day was to me. It marked a milestone in my life - all the way from there to here, with all challenges, sadness, difficulties, downsides and painful times which I had never fully disclosed nor confided to anyone.  Each step I took toward that scroll reminded me my journey since 4-5 years ago - for that one scroll. God knows how painful it was but I guess up to this point, I'd ...

Another Two Got Hitched

Congratulations to my close and awesome friends, Zafirah and Imran on their marriage. Having being friends for six years, it was a real pleasure for me to see them taking their courtship from Asasi UM to the dais last week. They are the epitome of unconditional, real love - through thick and thin.  So here's to Firah and Imran, may you both have a pleasant wedded life from this moment on. I can't wait to be Uncle Kye to your future kids. Like Beyonce said, if you like it then you should put a ring on it. Guess Imran really liked Firah then, winks.  Congratulations again, my friends. juicyword@gmail.com Twitter: @kyeberry

Sakina and Yusuf's Wedding

It was quite amazing how weddings could bring out the emotional side of you and moved even the most unbelieving person (exhibit one: myself). Certainly, having known and being close to the person did some justice to the wedding tears shed that evening. Sakina and I both studied in the Center for Foundation Studies in Science, Universiti Malaya, where we first got to know each other and later became friends. A year later, we both changed our degree courses and studied economics together in the same batch, of course alongside our best pals Ami, Fifi and Faris. Time moved so fast and now, another one has left the nest. We celebrated the new phase of Sakina and Yusuf's life in Holiday Villa, Subang where their wedding reception was held. The Indian-themed wedding brought back familiar faces from UM and yeah, it was a night we wouldn't ever forget. Our baby girl Sakina, always the darling in the group, got hitched to her prince. As per requested by the bride herse...

Congratulations, Bontots

There comes a time in your life when you really paused, realized everything has changed and how grown up you have become. Three years passed by so swiftly and my friends have graduated successfully (and stylishly) last August 4 in Dewan Tunku Canselor, Universiti Malaya. As what I've learned last year during my bestie, Ann Jie's graduation, convocation only means one word: HOT. Not hot as in fabulous. I really mean 'hot'! Lots of walking, phone-calls under the scorching sun and wandering around looking for your friends amongst thousands of people and crawling traffic. I didn't feel fun at all especially with sweat running down my 500 bucks Fred Perry Laurel. But all the un-fun parts was squashed away the moment I saw my friends. Oh, how it was so 2007 all the sudden again. Frankly, there's something about convocation that makes me emotional. Seeing my friends all with their robes, beret (is it called beret?), six-inch heels (Sakina) and bouquets made me so proud...

Revision Pics

Exam breakouts. Urgh. Since my parents are now fully embracing the wonder of internet and perhaps religiously peeping into my personal life through my blog at this very moment, I'm going to put up these random pictures of our revision session in the UM Main Library to remind everyone that I'm more than just shoes and outings. I'm still a student. Yep, make it to remind myself too . These pictures were taken by the fabulous Miss Eza and I gladly lifted them off her blog without her permission. Whoops . I'm sure she doesn't mind... does she? There are actually more, considering we had spent more than a week together there at the fourth floor but the pictures are scattered all around - some in Fifi's BlackBerry, some in mine and the rest are with Eza. Cam-whoring fun aside, preparing for exams is still not even one bit fun. Especially foreseeing the potential marks and CGPA for some of the less-attractive subjects. Yuck. All the best to my friends and those who...

Co-Curricular Day

As most of my closest friends and family members know, I decided to step out of my comfort zone this semester by taking a sport lesson for my co-curricular subject. Usually I would immediately go for those in my turf i.e. speaking, oratory classes, language etc. But, not this semester. I chose tennis instead. Yes, fellas, tennis . Thanks to Fifi for persuading me to accompany her for this class. She wanted to take up swimming lesson earlier but I'm a big chicken when it comes to being immersed in water so tennis looked like a good second choice. As the pinnacle of our 13-week classes, we had to do a presentation of tennis and set up a booth for it for the Co-curricular Day. Thus, earlier today we dropped by our booth to show some support and hanging around there though nothing much had to be done with so many of our other peers being there as well. For other classes, they had to perform in front of live audience. Ami took sitar playing class so we were proud to squeeze into the aud...

Bestie Graduates

Besties I've been living in an agonizing state since last couple of days as my left wisdom tooth is erupting and causing my left cheek to be swollen. I need not touch on the pain it causes. The continuous, tormenting pain. But on Thursday, August 13, 2009, I braced myself through sea of people for my bestie's graduation. If the pain wasn't enough to torture me, I had to park my car far, far away in Linguistic Faculty and walked to the Dewan Tunku Canselor. Those in UM would know how far it is. Under a scorching hot sun. Blessful. Thankfully, I arrived just in time as they were snapping away and catching up with each other. I shared half of their joy, truthfully. I've known her since I was 16, then we both enrolled in the same varsity, shared our ups and downs, had our own fair share of screaming to each other's face during some tense times and now, seeing her graduating makes me feel proud of her I was overcome with emotions, inside of course. And it was so good to...

My Research Methodology Lecturer, Dr Azhar Harun

The following was taken directly from his lecture notes: "4. It Needed The Critical Thinking Empirical research needed the thinking power or critical thinking from the researcher that aimed to looking the fact and thought about the meaning or/and valued this fact. And from this critical thinking the appropriate conclusion could be produced. (This critical thinking will including in the discussion part." "Or you see so many drug-edic people in Chowket to control the parking lot. What we know, the Malaysian government try to control and get them to the jail, but it still happened in social." Due to his toungue-twisting Kelantanese dialect, I couldn't understand exactly what he said be it in English or Bahasa Melayu. And now, his lecture notes are topsy-turvy. Aiyo.
